What speed should I set?
Slower than feels right. Most people set it too fast on the first attempt and end up sounding rushed on the recording.

Only if you are shooting through a beam splitter, the glass rig that puts the script in front of the lens. For normal filming, leave it off.
Can I use it on a phone?
Yes, though a laptop or tablet is easier to place near the lens. Many people run the script on a laptop and film on the phone above it.
How do I stop it looking like I am reading?
Get the text as close to the lens as possible, keep sentences short, and rehearse once so you are recognising the words rather than decoding them.

Pro tips
Get more out of it
- Set the speed slower than feels right on the first pass. Reading slightly under your natural pace sounds calm on camera and rushed almost never does.
- Put the script as close to the lens as you can. The further your eyes travel from the camera, the more obvious the reading looks.
- Break the script into short sentences. Long clauses are where reading aloud falls apart.
- Mark your breaths in the text. A line break where you would naturally pause does most of the work.
- Do one full read before recording. You will find the words that do not survive being said out loud.
- Write it the way you talk, not the way you write. Scripts that read well on paper often sound stiff out loud.
- Match the scroll to your slowest sentence, not your fastest.
- Increase the text size until you can read it without leaning in. Leaning is visible on camera.
- Mirror the text only if you are shooting through a beam splitter, otherwise leave it off.
- Record a ten second test and watch it back before the real take. Eye movement is the thing you cannot fix later.
