FAQ
Markdown editor, answered
What is this markdown editor?
A free editor that renders your Markdown as you type. Write on the left, see the formatted result on the right, then copy it or download a .md file.
Does it support tables and GitHub-flavored markdown?
Yes. Tables, task lists, strikethrough, and the rest of GitHub-flavored markdown render in the preview.
Can I export my document?
Yes. Copy the markdown to your clipboard or download it as a .md file.
Is it free?
Yes, no signup, and everything runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
What is markdown?
A plain text way of writing formatted documents. A hash makes a heading, asterisks make emphasis, and it stays readable even before it is rendered.
Which markdown flavour does the preview use?
Standard markdown with common extensions like tables and fenced code. Some tools differ on the edges, so preview before pasting somewhere final.
Can I export to PDF?
Yes. Print the preview and choose save as PDF.
Is my document saved?
No. It lives in your browser only. Copy or download it before you close the tab.
Does it work offline?
Once the page has loaded, yes. Editing and previewing happen entirely on your device.
A free online markdown editor with live preview. Write markdown on the left and watch it render on the right as you type, with headings, lists, links, tables and fenced code all supported. When you are done, copy the markdown, download the file, or print the rendered version to PDF. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored.
How it works
Three steps, no account
Start writing
Type markdown on the left and watch it render on the right as you go. Nothing installs.
Check the preview
Headings, lists, links, code and tables all render live, so you can see what you are shipping.
Take it with you
Copy the markdown, download the file, or print it to PDF when you need to send it on.
Common uses
What people use it for
Drafting a README or a doc
Write it and see it rendered before it lands in a repo where the formatting is public.
Cleaning up notes to share
Paste rough notes in, structure them with headings, and send the rendered version.
Writing something that has to travel
Markdown pastes cleanly into most tools, which HTML and rich text rarely do.
Pro tips
Get more out of it
- Use one heading level per level of meaning. Skipping from a top heading straight to a small one confuses both readers and screen readers.
- Blank lines matter in markdown. Most rendering surprises come from a missing empty line before a list.
- Fence code blocks with a language tag to get syntax highlighting wherever you paste them.
- Reference-style links keep long paragraphs readable while you are editing.
- Preview before you paste into somewhere that cannot be edited. Tables are where markdown flavours differ most.
- Keep lines reasonably short in the source. It makes diffs readable when the file is in version control.
- Preview tables before you rely on them. Table syntax is where markdown flavours differ most.
- Use a hyphen consistently for bullets. Mixing markers can break list nesting in some renderers.
- Escape characters that markdown treats as syntax, like an underscore inside a variable name.
- Print to PDF when you need to send it to someone who will not know what a markdown file is.
